The Austin Sheerline DS1 was introduced in 1947. Initially designated A110 and powered by a 3460cc six-cylinder overhead valve Austin 'D' series engine, after just a few had been built the engine size increased to 3995cc giving 125bhp and a designation change to Austin A125 Sheerline. Built and trimmed at Longbridge by Austin's the Sheerline was a large car with a near 10 foot wheelbase. 

The Sheerline was a luxurious model in the style of the contemporary Rolls-Royce and Bentley models but at a much cheaper price. Power steering and automatic transmission were never offered on the Sheerline. The car had as standard a steel sliding roof, radio, rear window blind and hydraulic jacking system.

A Limousine version of the Sheerline was produced from 1949 until 1954. This had an increased wheelbase of 11 feet.

Some 8000 examples were produced before production ceased in 1954. The model was not replaced, however its sister cars the Vanden Plas produced 'Princess' A135 saloon models continued until 1959. ​
